In 2003, Zhang (张亚林)was selected to the China national under-23 football team but injured in the training.

 He got married in 2006 with Jia Nini who is a Chineses model and actress. Zhang life was not so long and on 14 February 2010, he died of lyphoma in Dalian, aged 28, after a two-year battle with the disease.
